Avery Boyle is the Editor-In-Chief of The Hawk Eye at Hebron High School in Lewisville Texas. She manages staff deadlines, and ensures efficient production and communication between all members of staff. She believes it is necessary to pass New Voices law in Texas because the recognition of students’ voices and stories is crucial in creating a just society, and student journalists need the freedom to express their community and their own needs.
What I Do
As the West Texas Regional Organizer of New Voices Texas, I work to inform and gain support of New Voices Legislation from schools and districts across West Texas, as well as students and faculty whether involved or not in publications. I aim to educate about the importance of student press, and passing New Voices legislation to protect the voices of those whose stories are being told, and the ones who tell them in Texas.
I am responsible for schools and publications in districts 14,15,16,17, 18, and 19, and work to create a coalition of people who are looking to empower student publications by passing our legislation. I will achieve this by communicating efficiently, establishing strong connections with those in West Texas, and informing those about the steps they can take to ensure our legislation is passed come the next legislative session.
Community awareness, gatherness, and support is crucial in passing New Voices Legislation, and my goal is to create open dialog, and bring more attention to our cause this year. The student journalists of today are the journalists of the future, and their voices need to be protected.
