Erick Garcia is the Reference Editor of The Caney Creek Yearbook at Caney Creek High School in Conroe, Texas.
“I believe it is crucial to pass the New Voices law in Texas to safeguard the freedom of student journalists and protect their right to report on issues without censorship. Such legislation would allow young voices, foster a culture of journalism, and uphold the principles of free speech and also freedom essential for a vibrant democracy to be proud of.”
What I Do
As the Club Development Specialist Officer of New Voices Texas, I’ll be working along with students and teachers to spread the voices of students and inform students about their rights as journalists. I’ll collaborate with our officers, specialists and students with great efforts to maximize the outreach of New Voices.
I am responsible for establishing a new club across my community, recruiting passionate club members, and providing support to ensure an effective club. I’ll also promote community engagement through outreach and collaboration with journalists, teachers and students to align a club with goals. I will contribute to New Voices’ mission of amplifying youth voices and fostering positive social change.
I will measure our success in playing a pivotal role in the growth and success of our organization by focusing on New Voices and the beginning of clubs. My primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth start, development, and sustainability of the clubs.
Throughout the school year as a Club Development Specialist at New Voices, my primary goal is to establish a new club in my community. I will track progress, celebrate achievements, and strategically guide our efforts toward amplifying youth voices and fostering meaningful community impact.
