“As student journalists, we must protect and advocate for our rights. From researching to interviewing, writing a story can be challenging. Because of this, student journalists need the freedom to explore, report and write without the fear of censorship. Student journalists deserve the same rights as real journalists.”
What I Do
As the Communications Officer of New Voices Texas, I collaborate with our team of specialists and officers to advocate for student press rights. My goal for NVT is to build a strong network of supporters, including student journalists and advisors. I plan to have community outreach by organizing events and inviting journalists to speak on the importance of student press laws.
By the end of the year, I hope to have built a strong foundation for New Voices of Texas. I plan to highlight student journalists’ stories of censorship, advocate for the passage of New Voices in Texas, and inform lawmakers and political figureheads about student press rights.
