Faye Zayed is an incoming freshman at the University of Texas at Austin as a journalism major. This marks Zayed’s third year involved with New Voices Texas, where she continues to advocate for student press rights and work toward meaningful change.
“Journalism is the catalyst for change. As student journalists, we must protect and advocate for our rights. Student journalists need the freedom to explore, report and write without the fear of censorship.”
What I Do
As a college specialist, I will work to train and help officers and specialists while strengthening our presence at the collegiate level. I will also work to lobby at the Capitol more frequently. My goal is to build a strong network of supporters, including student journalists and advisers while expanding our reach through public engagement and media partnerships.
By the end of the year, I hope to establish a lasting foundation for New Voices Texas by highlighting stories of censorship, advocating for legislative change about the urgency of protecting student voices.
