Johnathan Tristan is the social media director at Prosper High School in Prosper Texas.

“I think it’s a necessity to pass the New Voices Texas law because with the students of Newspaper classes being the future of journalism, it’s important for us to have the responsibility and approval to report on certain things that are deeper than surface level ideas. If we’re taught to not report on certain things, it can make us question ourselves on informing people on deeper topics in the future.”



What I Do

As the website editor and communications specialist my job is to work with the communications officers to make New Voices known. My job is also to update the update the New Voices website making it most current.

I will measure my success by focussing on how New Voices is being adverted towards people that could possibly interested. I also want to focus on the analytics of the site as the website editor.

By the end of the year I hope that the legislation is passed and recognized by political leaders that can give the change high school journalists need.
